Papua New Guinea measles and rubella vaccine campaign

Client

Support Papua New Guinea to apply for Gavi funding for a measles and rubella immunization campaign.

  • New Format
Goal
  • To support the Papua New Guinea National Department of Health of to apply for Gavi funding for the measles and rubella vaccination campaign.
  • To ensure the campaign can strengthen the immunization system, and identify and target unimmunised children.
Scope
MMGH helped the Papua New Guinea health department to design and develop their application for funding support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, for the measles and rubella vaccination campaign. An important component of the proposal was the focus on strengthening the immunization system, and identifying and targeting unimmunised children. The application included an analysis of the social, economic and health context of the country, as well as a detailed work plan that covered components such as communications, logistics, data management and waste management for the campaign rollout. MMGH also supported the development of a detailed budget proposal for the campaign. PNG has one of the lowest immunisation coverages in the world, facing substantial challenges to reach a population spread over difficult geographic terrain. MMGH helped secure a grant for operational costs that was above what was expected by making a strong case for why that figure was necessary to overcome these challenges. In working with the client, MMGH was also able to get a funding commitment from the Papua New Guinea government for the campaign.
Result

Papua New Guinea successfully obtained Gavi funding for their measles and rubella immunization catch up campaign. MMGH also helped secure a grant for operational costs that were above what was expected, as well as securing a funding commitment from the government for the campaign.
