Papua New Guinea full immunisation and health system strengthening portfolio planning

Client

Support Papua New Guinea’s application for an immunization and health system strengthening grant.

  • New Format
Goal
  • To support the Papua New Guinea National Department of Health with their application for Gavi funding to strengthen health and immunization programming, including developing a 5-year workplan and detailed budget.
Scope
MMGH helped the Papua New Guinea health ministry to design and develop their application to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, for health and immunization strengthening support. This included data analysis and a detailed review of the social, economic, gender and health context of the country. The analysis looked at the main challenges faced by the health system to provide immunization, with a focus on unimmunized children. It also looked at innovative approaches to mobilize a broad array of national and international partners, with a focus on sustainability, as Papua New Guinea will transition from eligibility for Gavi assistance in the coming years. Following the analysis, MMGH helped develop a 5-year detailed work plan and detailed budget proposal, including funding for partners supporting the immunization programme. On approval of the grant, MMGH helped design a multi-partner project that will provide comprehensive support to provinces with the lowest performing immunization programme.
Result

With MMGH support, Papua New Guinea successfully obtained Gavi funding to strengthen their health and immunization programmes, with a focus on regions and populations with large numbers of unimmunized children.
